THE GAME IS ON!

Welcome to the 48 hour film challenge. We wish you all the best of luck this weekend. On this page you will find your prompts and you will also be able to read the rules again.

THE PROMPTS

Here are your three prompts!

  • The location: A narrow alley 

  • The object: An umbrella 

  • The line of script: “Five years of applause, panic, and last-minute exports.”

These prompts will build your story. Each prompt must be featured in your film. All submitted films will be screened on the Sunday of the event weekend. Bring your friends and family and enjoy watching the results of a weekend of filmmaking!

Only films that meet all the requirements (see rules below) will be considered for an award.

The challenge begins at 4 p.m. on Friday (today)  and ends 4 p.m. on Sunday, this is your deadline. 

The following awards can be won:

Best Acting
Best Cinematography 
Best Storytelling (includes editing and use of prompts)
Best Sound (includes sound recording, use of foley/sound effects)
Audience favourite

RULES

Rules
Films must be between 3 - 6 min long (excl. max 60 sec credits). 
 
The challenge starts Friday 15th May at 4pm and finishes on Sunday 17th May at 4 pm. All footage must be shot within this period.
 
No stock footage or footage shot or created at another time may be used unless the footage is on a background monitor, e.g., a television, as long as the team has rights to the (stock) footage.
 
Health & Safety 
Health and safety for cast/crew/animals must be respected. Films that do not respect this will be disqualified. Buzz Cinema does not take any responsibility, financially or otherwise, for accidents/injuries that occur during the 48-hour challenge. Please ensure that adequate risk assessments have been conducted before using space/equipment.
Participants aged under 18 need permission from a parent or carer to participate.
 
Prompts
Object: The required object must be seen on-screen. The prop must be a part of the story, however small. 
 
Line: The required Line of Dialogue must be used verbatim. It may be spoken, sung and/or written. It may be in any language, though if it is unclear that it is the required line, there must be a translation.
 
Location: The required location must be used at least once in the film.
 
Cameras
Any type of camera may be used. This includes the use of smartphone cameras. Consider the sound quality of smartphone cameras. Separate smartphones can be used as microphones with the voice recorder app.
 
Music rights
Participating groups are encouraged to work with a composer and/or musicians to write and record music for the films. It is permissible for a participating group to use pre-recorded music; however, the participating group must have the rights to any music used in its film, or use royalty-free music. As with music, pre-recorded sound effects are allowed, but you must have rights to use them or use royalty-free sound effects.
 
The film needs to be submitted on Sunday 17th May before 4pm. In order for your film to be considered to be a winner, all of the rules mentioned above must be followed.
 
Film Format
Start the film with:
Your team name and film title before the film starts
End the film with: Max. 60 seconds of end credits. This is not included in the time limit of the film.
 
Maximum file size: 2GB Video should be filmed in landscape (16:9 aspect ratio). Allow enough time to edit and export your film!

Submission: Please submit your film using one of the following systems to buzzcinema@outlook.com. Allow enough time to send your film.

- Google drive (make sure Buzz Cinema can access the folder)

- Swisstransfer
