Updated: Mar 26

Vacancy Type: Voluntary

Hours per Week: Variable based on availability during the festival week. Mainly evenings.

Join the Buzz Cinema team and help us create a fantastic week from May 8 - 17 2026. You will be a helping hand or one of the faces of the film festival. Help us prepare venues for film screenings or workshops (e.g. setting up seats and technical equipment), welcome visitors, run the merch and information desk or take photos and videos to promote the festival.

You’ll be working with the rest of the Buzz Cinema team: event managers, the content creation team, and workshop leads. We hope you’ll bring passion above everything else.

Buzz Cinema is a grassroots film festival that premiered in September 2022. It was born from a passion to showcase local filmmakers' work in the communities where they live. This years festival has 6 screenings, 2 workshops and a 48 hour film contest.

We’re looking for people to help as:

  • Program/Print Material Distribution: This is a pre-festival role. Distribute our programs, leaflets and posters in Bedfordshire, Buckingham and Hertfordshire.

  • All-round volunteers: With this role you help out behind the scenes of the festival and with costumer facing roles. This includes: Ticket Checkers, Set-up Assistant, Stall Operator and tech operator.

  • Presenter: On stage presenting the event. Includes hosting Q&A for filmmakers if relevant.

  • Media: Take digital images/videos of the event and promote and operate photo wall if present.

The benefits:

  • Attend all worked events for free: volunteers are allowed to stay for the duration of any event that they are volunteering at. However, while wearing the t-shirt, volunteers must remain helpful and on-hand for all members of the public should they wish to do this.

  • Free screening events: Volunteers who work at least three shifts are able to attend any of our screening events for free. This is a on a first-come-first serve basis and volunteers should let their Volunteer Coordinator know which screenings they wish to attend at least 48 hours before the selected screening.

  • Discount on merchandise: 25% off all Buzz Cinema merchandise (bought or ordered in person).

Requirements

Volunteers should:

  • be at least 18 years of age.

  • actively sign-up for specific shifts in advance if available.

  • be able to commit to at least two shifts during the festival.

  • be able to stay for the full length of their shift. Exceptions to this should be discussed with the volunteer coordinator at least 72 hours before the beginning of the festival (Friday 8th May)

  • actively read and respond to emails, texts and WhatsApp messages. By not doing this, your shift may be taken by another volunteer and you will not be able to attend the event for free.

  • attend all volunteer meetings to be arranged by the volunteer coordinator before and after the festival. Notice should be given by the volunteer to the volunteer coordinator at least 48 hours before the meeting if they are unable to attend.
