Whatever Happened to Molly Doyle?

4 minutes | Short Film | 2024
Director - Ava Bounds

This absurd yet touching comedy follows 80-year-old Molly Doyle as fantastical characters help her let go of life and embrace her next journey.

Ava is fascinated by life in all its messy brilliance—its highs, lows, and even how it all ends—always with a touch of laughter. Her style embraces the absurd while uncovering deeper truths. Molly Doyle, her great-great-aunt from County Kerry, Ireland, lived in Castlemaine around 1900. She sounded like the kind of character she'd love to meet one day—who knows, maybe she will.

The Director

Ava (Winner, IMDb New Filmmaker 2021) is a teenage writer/director who makes tasteful, absurdist dramas that explore the depths of humanity through its eccentricities. Her films appeal to young people aged 16-25 who want to be shaken into the joy of living.

Many of her shorts have been selected and won at several international film festivals including BAFTA and Academy Award qualifying. Ava continues to deliver award-winning cinema as she hatches fresh story ideas about ordinary odd bods who journey from illusion to reality.

When Ava isn’t creating her next award-winning film, you can find her swimming in Yorkshire rivers while munching on a slab of Soreen.
